PRN deadline to be scrapped

The controversial September 2005 deadline for firms to register to issue packaging recovery notes (PRNs) next year looks likely to be scrapped within weeks.
The Government has responded to widespread criticism by declaring it an "urgent" matter and opening a consultation that closes at 5pm on February 28.
PRN exporters complained the deadline was damaging for trade as it did not allow them to take advantage of changes in the global market.
So the Government has published a brief consultation paper proposing to remove the deadline from packaging waste laws throughout the UK.
A spokesman said: "The Government has decided to consult on removing the date from the regulations as a result of a number of difficulties identified by a broad spectrum of stakeholders."
