Recolight and ERP team up to offer combined battery and lamp collections

Waste electrical and electronic equipment producer compliance schemes Recolight and European Recycling Platform have partnered up to offer combined battery and lamp recycling collections.

ERP and Recolight will offer organisations obligated to collect batteries, under the UK Battery Regulations, the opportunity to collect both waste batteries and waste energy-saving light bulbs.

Recolight chief executive Nigel Harvey said: By combining two waste streams, we can use the same transport infrastructure for both products, helping to reduce CO2 emissions. And for retailers and wholesalers with busy delivery schedules, it also cuts down the number of vehicles entering the site, and the associated paperwork.

ERP general manager Scott Butler said: We will offer ERP battery collections free to all those with Recolight lamp collection points. This will be an important part of ERPs battery collection network for 2010 and beyond.

ERP recently submitted its application to become a battery compliance scheme. It already manages battery recycling in Ireland, Finland, Spain, Denmark and Austria.

Recolight is a producer-led compliance scheme specialising in the recycling of gas discharge lamps, in accordance with the WEEE Regulations.
