Recolight reaches 200 million lamp milestone

Compliance scheme Recolight is celebrating recycling 200 million lamps, luminaires and LEDs since 2007.

Recolight launched its own luminaire compliance service last year, which recyled 40% of the 984 tonnes of luminaires recycled as WEEE during 2013.

The UK’s lamp recycling rate has risen from 23% in 2008 to 52.8% last year.

Recolight chief executive Nigel Harvey said: “Our members can be very proud that they have achieved this 200 million milestone; it is they that have made it possible and it is a testament to their dedication to improve lighting recycling in the UK. Their role is integral in making sure we meet the UK recycling targets set out in the recast WEEE directive.”
