After viewing and testing a number of different systems throughout Europe, Ford and its subsidiaries Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Volvo, as well as Saab, Honda and Harley Davidson have all given the AutoDrain fuel recovery unit top marks. It is now recommended equipment with European wide approval.
Fuel recovery can be a dangerous or even fatal business if proper precautions are not taken or unsuitable equipment is used. Under health and safety law, all employers are required to carry out a risk assessment for their site and ensure control measures are put in place to help avoid accidents. They also have a statutory obligation with respect of fire and explosion hazards.
As the recommended fuel recovery unit of these famous marques, AutoDrain equipment is fully compliant with all Health and Safety Executive guidelines and fuel recovery units can be supplied independently or form part of a depollution bay.
According to Paul Dixon, managing director of AutoDrain: "Approval from Ford was gained over 12 months ago, but we are really pleased that so many other prestigious vehicle manufacturers have recently approved and recommend our fuel recovery unit."
Purpose designed and tested to minimise any leakage of liquid or vapour the AutoDrain system removes fuel from the existing tank opening on most vehicles. Dixon says that removing fuel from the existing opening is the safest method. However, it is not always possible to remove all fuel from the existing tank opening, so a specialist tank drill that operates with out creating a spark is available as part of the AutoDrain range.
The AutoDrain fuel recovery unit is vacuum operated and literally sucks fuel out of the tank into its strong, damage-resistant tank reducing leakage to nil if used correctly. Available with a 115 litre capacity it is equally effective operating as a stand alone unit or part of a full system. All fuel recovery units are complete with an overfill protector, safety vent, pressure regulator, metal probe, special hose designed to extract fuel from the filler pipe, an adapter to enable retrieval through the fuel line, and heavy castors for manoeuvrability.
