Recycled building products have a commercial edge when specifiers pick project materials, claims PVC-U recycling initiative Recovinyl. With a growing awareness of the benefits of greener products, there has been an increase in take up of such products. Exterior cladding and window cills made from 100% recycled PVC-U show how material can be used without any loss of performance. Recovinyls UK agents Axion Recycling commercial director Roger Morton said: Given the UK construction industrys commitment to improve sustainability, sourcing 100% recycled products that can demonstrate closed-loop recycling can make a significant contribution to providing environmentally-friendly solutions. An example of this is Belface an external cladding profile made from Cyclefoam, a 100% recycled PVC product. It is made by PVC-U window company Deceuninck and the majority of the frame is made from recyclate, with a 0.5mm outer layer of new material. The companys Building Products Division manager Hazel Wilson explained: The material composition and design has been developed to ensure a high performing product that retains its shape and structural integrity when exposed to the rigours that external cladding must endure.
