Recresco secures £100m glass recycling contract

Recycling company Recresco has signed a new £100 million contract with glass bottle manufacturer, Quinn Glass, to supply two million tonnes of recycled glass to be used in the production of new bottles.

Recresco has three glass processing centres in the UK and has been awarded a 10-year deal with Quinn Glass to provide it with recycled glass cullet.

The award of this contract is possibly one of the most significant events in terms of glass recycling in the last 10 years, Recresco director Tim Gent said.

Importantly, it clearly demonstrates that through continuous development of new technologies and investment in new processing plants, Recresco is able to provide large quantities of recycled glass of the highest quality and purity.

According to Recresco, there is a large market for mixed glass that is colour separated.

All the glass supplied under the contract will have been collected within the UK, mainly through recycling activities by local authorities via kerbside collection schemes and bottle banks.

Quinn Glass director Adrian Curry said: This landmark contract not only provides considerable benefits to both Quinn Glass and Recresco, it does much to sustain the long term demand for recycled glass.
