Recycling advert to screen on Boxing Day

A television advert promoting electronics recycling will be screened on Boxing Day to catch people before they throw away unwanted Christmas gifts.

The advert has been produced as part of the WEEE Recycle campaign, and aims to raise householder awareness of the need to recycle waste electronics.

It was funded by Weee Connect, a partnership formed by WEEE producer compliance schemes and reprocessors.

The national campaign is being supported by a number of bodies.

Warwickshire County Council waste projects officer Ruth Payne said: “The festive period is very much a time of out with the old and in with the new, and we are supporting this national campaign to ensure that more unwanted or waste electronic items are either reused or recycled.

“The message to the public is please don’t throw your old gadgets and gizmos into the dustbin but take them to your nearest recycling bank instead.”

Last year the UK population bought more than 1.2 million tonnes of new electrical and electronic equipment.
