Recycling centre back in action as flood waters recede

Flood waters almost 3ft deep have receded completely from the Craigmillar Community Recycling Centre in Edinburgh.

It follows concern from centre staff who hit out at city leaders for not fixing the drainage problem, which meant that they had to wade through the water to carry out their job.

But a City of Edinburgh Council spokeswoman said: Flood waters did not affect recycling services, staff or the public. Flood waters have now receded completely.

Some centre staff reported that rats infested the water but the council spokeswoman rebuked these claims.

Edinburgh has been hit with a spate of bad luck recently with five of its bin lorries breaking down last week. The spokeswoman said: There has been a backlog of collections but its due to be cleared by tomorrow.
