Residents rewarded for clean-up act

Cleaning up the neighbourhood has won the Boughton & Ollerton Tenants and Residents Association £200 from the Environment Agency.

Residents from the Nottinghamshire authority held a clean-up of the Retford Road Estate before beginning a refurbishment of the area to make it a better place to live.

Tony Dean, regional director at the Environment Agency, said: This was a real community effort. The volunteers answered the call for a huge clean-up and litter pick event, which encouraged people to sort and recycle rubbish. This is a prime example of how local people can come together and make a real difference to their own surroundings.

About 80 volunteers helped out on the clean-up and in two hours collected about 100 bags of rubbish, including sweet wrappers, cans and household rubbish.
