Valpak could look to expand outside the UK if its proposed £1.4m restructure is given the green light by members, a senior figure has indicated.
Valpak marketing director Duncan Simpson said the offer had been prepared after an assessment of the company’s future strategic value by co-bidder Greenpoint.
Simpson said: “The improved offer results from the strategic future value that Greenpoint places on the business to enable it to exploit opportunities in new markets outside the UK.
“This value was unknown at the time of the original offer and requires capital to access which Greenpoint’s involvement enables.”
A company statement said: “Greenpoint is the owner of DSD, the principal compliance scheme in Germany, and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience about operations in other parts of Europe and further afield.”
A Greenpoint spokesman said: “We believe the UK compliance system works extremely well.”
