Revamped Manchester recycling centres ready

Construction work on five household waste recycling centres in Manchester has been completed. This is part of a £631m programme to achieve 50% recycling and composting by 2015.

The redevelopment works form part of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authoritys (GMWDA) long-term waste management contract with Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester).

VLGM said the work has improved access, layout, increased capacity and material streams recycled, reduced impact on local traffic and improved safety.

VLGM chair Peter Heginbotham said: These new facilities make it much easier for local residents to recycle more of their waste in a safe environment.
