Revamped waste site for Loughborough

Loughborough residents will benefit from a newly revamped waste and recycling site that will officially open this week.

After an injection of £1.7 million, the site has been enlarged to provide more facilities to separate waste for recycling and composting, and has become split-level with no steps or gantries.

With its user-friendly facilities and collections for materials such as cardboard, wood, chipboard, green waste, televisions, monitors, and household batteries, it is hoped the facility will help Leicestershire reach its Government-set target for recycling and composting. The site expects to recycle and compost over 36% of its waste this year and almost 50% of its waste next year.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs contributed a £1.2 million grant towards the scheme, with the remainder funded by the county council.
