REY identifies £5m compost market for small producers

Recycling Efficiency Yorkshire has set up a network to exploit a £5million market for compost in the region.

Under the network REY will bring together smaller compost producers to supply up to one million tonnes of material for land regeneration uses.

The land regeneration business network allows small-scale local compost producers to join forces to fulfil big orders.

REY organic waste project manager Matt Hill said: We are running the land regeneration business network as part of the Delivering Excellence in Waste (DEW) programme for Local Government Yorkshire and Humber, which aims to divert organic waste from landfill.

"By working with local authorities we have been able to alert local composters to a huge business opportunity and we are confident that our work will help this sector to flourish.

The regions economy and the environment will receive a boost because compost producers can now easily work together and link up with local authorities to help them meet their landfill diversion targets.
