Saica buys up Cutts Recycling

Saica, the Spanish paper firm behind the recycled containerboard mill in Manchester, has bought waste paper recovery firm Cutts Recycling.

Yorkshire-based Cutts Recycling operates two recycling centres in Doncaster and Sheffield, treating approximately 70,000 tonnes of waste paper and cardboard each year. The company has been forecast to turnover £10m in 2011.

The acquisition builds on Saica’s strategy to become an integrated paper manufacturer in the UK. The operations include recovering material via Saica Natur using Cutts Recycling and Futur, manufacturing recycled products via Saica Paper’s new mill and producing packaging through Saica Pack UK. It also follows the purchase of waste management firm Futur in November 2010.

Saica Natur UK managing director Simon Dymoke said: “Saica has ambitious expansion plans with regard to waste management in the UK in order to drive the integrated business model that has proved to be so successful in Europe. We are looking forward to providing our UK customers with the benefits of Saica’s full product life cycle approach to packaging and waste management.”
