Scam warning over data update mailshot

A renewed warning about a scam that can cost those conned thousands of pounds has been issued by the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA).

A Mexican-based organisation, Expo Guide, has posted a letter using the ADBA name and its annual UK AD & Biogas event to request a data update from members and exhibitors’.

The official-looking mailshot (above and right) includes a series of fields to be completed. The sting is in the small print which gives Expo Guide permission to publish the information on its own website for the next three years at a cost of €1271 (£1,000) - unless the arrangement is cancelled within 12 days.

Similar letters have been sent out to organisations publicly listed as exhibiting at RWM with CIWM.

ADBA, like most reputable organisations, says it works only with trusted partners and would never forward details to third parties who do not work for ADBA.

“If you are ever unsure whether communications have come from ADBA, please do not hesitate to check with us,” its website says.
