Shanks appoints leading waste figure as non-executive director

Former chairman and chief executive of Sita and Suez Environnement Jacques Petry has been appointed non-executive director at Shanks Group.

Joining the board on 30 September, Petry will become a member of the group’s audit, remuneration and nomination committees.

Shanks Group chairman Adrian Auer said: “Jacques is an internationally recognised figure in the waste industry and we are delighted he has agreed to join the board. He brings with him exceptional industry experience and a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

“His appointment strengthens the board, and I have no doubt he will add tremendous value in areas that are at the heart of the group’s ambitions.  We look forward to his contribution to the further successful development of Shanks.”

Petry was Sita chairman and chief executive from 1996 before becoming the first chairman and chief executive of Sita’s parent company, water and waste management group Suez Environnement in 2001. Since 2007, he has been advising corporate and financial sponsors, beginning as RBS’s environment services sector global head, and then as an independent consultant for infrastructure and environmental services.

He has also been a non-executive director on the board of various listed companies.
