In a bid to minimise the rising cost of compliance, Shanks Waste Management has invested in a small volume recycling service. The service will provide commercial customers with an orange flapped, 1110-litre container into which they can put mixed recyclables, paper, plastic, card, tins, cans and bottles. The waste collected will then be taken to one of Shanks material recycling facilities, where it is sorted and sent on for further processing to become new products. Shanks will be writing to its entire customer base detailing the new requirement and options to ensure compliance. Speaking of the service, marketing manager Austen Lees said: It will allow our customers to increase the amount of waste they recycle and divert the amount of waste we send to landfill.
