Shopping centre wins green award

A welsh shopping centre has scooped an International Green Apple Environment Award for its innovative carbon reduction project which includes a number of recycling initiatives.

With over 450,000 shoppers visiting it each week, St Davids shopping centre wanted to reduce its impact on the environment and make a commitment to being green.

Its Carbon Footprint project aims to reduce the total carbon production of the centre by 25% in five years. To date it has managed to recycle over 30% of its waste and save over 80,000 Kwh in electricity a year.

This award is testament to all our members of staff, especially our waste management team, and our tenants, who have been fully onboard with the project from day one, said St Davids Centre general manager Steven Madeley.

The centres recycling initiatives, which include wood and pallet recycling, had already earned the centre a Tidy Business Standard gold award earlier in the year.
