Sims buys West Midlands-based All Metal Recovery

Sims Metal Management has bought UK based metals recycler All Metal Recovery Limited. The acquisition of AMR, which was founded in 1986, includes two metal recycling yards in Smethwick and a four acre dedicated rail link facility for transporting ferrous and non-ferrous metal to UK steelworks and ports.

As with previous acquisition in the West Midlands (such as Evans and Mondonand C Herring and Sonin 2008) Sims said buying AMR builds upon its presence there and strengthens its national network.

Sims UK managing director Tom Bird said: We look forward to welcoming Stephen Dunn and his team from AMR. We have been looking to build our presence in the strategically important central location of the West Midlands for some time but have taken a prudent approach to expansion. This has allowed us to make this acquisition at the right point in the business cycle.

The company was advised on the acquisition by law firm Eversheds LLP. Corporate partner James Trevis, who led the team, said: This transaction is an excellent example of how well capitalised companies can engage in strategic acquisitions by acting quickly to take advantage of opportunities despite difficult economic conditions.
