Sims hopes to expand its presence in the north east of England. It follows on from the firms recent purchases of other metal recyclers in the Midlands including ER Coley, Evans and Mondon.
C.Herring and Son is a well established family-owned business that employs 22 people and operates from a six acre site, which also houses an authorised treatment facility (ATF) for the depollution and disposal of end-of-life vehicles.
Sims Group UK managing director Tom Bird commented: We are delighted with this acquisition and look forward to welcoming the team from C.Herring and Son into the Sims business. The north of England, and particularly the north east region, is an area of the country where we have been keen to strengthen our foothold. This purchase is part of our ongoing strategy to secure tonnage and the location of the C.Herring and Son facility offers Sims a great platform on which to build. We now have a regional hub in the north east ideally placed to help Sims expand further into the region.
The business was founded in 1958 and Chris Herring, former owner, will oversee the transition of the company into the Sims metal business.
