Sims Metal Management is now able to provide its suppliers with credits towards End of Life Vehicle (ELV) compliance targets, following investment in post shredder technology that allows it to recycle more material from ELVs.
The metals recycler can now recycle a further 23kgs of material from ELVs, including more metals, plastics and other materials from post shredder waste, taking Authorised Treatment Facilities closer to achieving the 85% recycling target necessary to achieve compliance.
Sims MM said it is continuing to invest in its automotive shredder residue separation plants and aims to achieve a greater recovery rate still.
Group business development manager Simon Palmer said: “We are pleased to be able to provide this 23kgs credit to our suppliers but that is just the start. Innovative separation technologies on the latest plant in Long Marston, Warwickshire, are demonstrating ever greater recovery rates. Commissioning is almost complete and we anticipate being able to achieve recovery rates in the region of 40kgs per ELV.”
