Sita UK has submitted a formal planning application to build a 62,000 tonnes per year energy-from-waste facility in Telford, Shropshire.
The company launched a public consultation on the proposal in April this year and has submitted its application to Telford and Wrekin Council. The centre is designed to replace landfill as a means of disposing of Telfords residual waste as well as providing a renewable source of energy.
In April, Sita talked to local communities near the site to gauge their views on the proposal.
General manager Geraint Rees said: The information we have gathered through this process has been taken into account in formulating the formal planning application. However, we will continue to engage with community representatives and key stakeholders, such as parish councils and local environmental groups, as the planning process moves forward. We are also considering the potential to hold more public exhibitions and people will have the opportunity to scrutinise the planning application and supporting documents by contacting Telford & Wrekin Council once the application has been submitted.
