Sita UK is set to expand its food waste collections across the south and central regions of England, following a successful year of operating in and around London.
Currently, the company collects food from 800 customers, including pub chains, Government offices and restaurants. It hopes to considerably increase this by the end of 2011.
Some of its success is due to its collection vehicles that collect both food waste and glass in truck.
Sita UK chief operating officer Graham Mayes said: “We are on track to deliver on our original aim of establishing the service in most of the capital and then expand to other parts of the UK including major cities in the south and central areas. These target areas will allow us to double the size of this service by the end of 2011.
“Our customers know a good idea when they see one and they can see the real benefit of collecting food waste at the same time as their glass, which is an efficient and cost-effective way of reducing their carbon footprint. We are confident that this exciting new service will go from strength to strength this year and into 2012.”
