Sita to handle 2012 Olympic Games waste

Sita UK has been named as the master waste contractor for the Olympic Games 2012.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has awarded Sita the contract to handle waste produced over the games-time period which spans 30 days.

With 19 days of competition across 34 venues for the Olympic Games and 11 days of competition across 21 venues for the Paralympic games, LOCOG expects the catering, cleaning and waste requirements will need “significant resource”.

LOCOG chief executive Paul Deighton said: “The work done by our catering, cleaning and waste contractors will be largely unsung by many, but is vital and everyone in the organising committee recognises their vital role in delivering the Games.  This is a massive piece of project management, but with these companies on board we are well set to deliver Games that the country can be proud of.”

Details of the waste contract are not currently available.
