SITA UK wins Hounslow contract

Improvements to the London Borough of Hounslows waste and recycling service mean it will collect pretty much everything.

The changes to collect more material types, with the capacity to recycle 70% of household waste, will come in under a new contract with SITA UK.

A Hounslow Council spokeswoman said: We already had doorstep green box collections for certain materials as well as for garden waste. But with SITA well be introducing mixed plastics and kitchen waste in February/March 2009. So well be one of the few London boroughs taking mixed plastics and offering services that will take pretty much everything.

Council Lead Member for Environment Barbara Reid said: We are committed to making our borough a cleaner and greener place to live. Thats why we are taking steps to increase the boroughs recycling rates and reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.

SITA UK already provides services for the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and has a partnership with the North London Waste Authority to manage its waste through Londonwaste.
