Sita worker killed by waste truck

A Sita waste collector working in Fairford, Gloucestershire was crushed by his own bin lorry yesterday (18 February).

It is thought the 52-year-old man was killed after becoming trapped between the truck and bins, although this is yet to be confirmed.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene when the incident happened at 9.55am.

A statement from Sita said: At this difficult time our thoughts are obviously with his family and work colleagues. All those involved in the incident have been offered counselling.

Sita takes its health and safety obligations very seriously. The events leading up to todays incident are now a matter for investigation by ourselves, the Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Until this has been concluded, we are unable to comment further.

A notice on the Cotswold District Council website said it has sent its condolences to all those involved, adding that there may be slight disruptions to the waste collection services as workers come to terms with the incident.
