Havant Borough Council cited bad weather as the reason for recycling collections being initially halted. However some people are still waiting to have their recyclables collected despite the better weather.
The council insist that this is because of its policy of alternate weekly collections and point out that they did resume collections the week commencing January 18 with a rubbish-only collection to clear the back-log.
Council environment portfolio holder David Collins said: We took the decision to first take away all the hazardous waste and every bit was collected by January 25.
Council environmental quality manager Peter Vince said: Normal scheduled alternate weekly collections commenced last week, although some residents will not have their recycling bins emptied until this week.
However when collections are made all recyclable material will be collected from inside and alongside the bins.
We accept that these arrangements may appear drawn out but we believe them to be an efficient way of resuming AWC scheduled collections as soon as possible.
Understandably with a six week wait, some residents remain unconvinced. Trevor Austin, 56, said: This is hardly the way to encourage residents to recycle their waste.
