Waste company Biffa had the pleasant task of sending hundreds of flowers meant for Mothers Day to landfill because they were infested with spiders.
Thousands of roses and carnations were crawling with the eight-legged horrors. But mothers across the country were spared a Sunday surprise when the flowers were sent to Biffas waste and disposal facility in Birmingham.
Biffa manager David Graham said: When the van delivering the flowers arrived, the driver looked terrified. In fact Ive never seen a driver so keen to unload. After ushering him to safety and administering a recuperative cup of tea, we just got on with the job of destroying the lot.
Still, it was a shame to have to get rid of all those flowers just before Mothers Day.
Graham asked the driver if he would give the flowers to his mother. He replied God no! I would never do that to my mum, I was thinking of the mother in law!
