A major metals recycling firm has announced it is boosting its capacity in the UK after investing more than £6m and creating 25 new jobs.
Van Dalen operates 17 shredding and baling sites in the UK and Northern Europe and supplies major steel mills and a number of foundries.
The company said its total capacity increased to 500,000 tonnes per year in 2011 and it hopes to double that over the next three years. The firm has invested in a “state-of-the art” ferrous shredder at its Sheffield headquarters, as well as expansion of its facilities in the south.
Van Dalen UK managing director Tom Bird said: “Although market conditions have been challenging, we’ve had a really positive 12 months. The shredder will transform our Sheffield facility, making it a state-of-the-art metal recycling centre.”
“The focus on non-ferrous operations will complement our existing success in the ferrous arena, helping us to grow volume and market share. In turn, we hope to provide further investment and job creation opportunities in the UK.”
