Suez agrees deal to buy windfarm power

GDF Suez UK has agreed to buy all the electricity generated from a windfarm in East Lothain, Scotland.

GDF Suez UK has signed an agreement with Windpower Ltd to purchase all the energy from the 19-turbine, 68.4MW facility currently under construction at Aikengall II. The wind farm is capable of producing 250GWh of power per year and will supply 42,000 homes.

Aikengall II was granted consent by the Scottish government in March 2013. Construction of the civil engineering works is currently underway, with work on the foundations for the wind turbines to be completed this year, according to Community Windpower’s website.

The deal was signed after a competitive tender process. Commissioning is scheduled for August 2016.
