Suez buys Easco to access profitable metals market

The acquisition of metal specialist Easco by Suez Environment will enable its UK waste management subsidiary Sita UK to gain a significant foothold and develop expertise in the metal recycling market.

Easco has 13 sites across the Midlands, Yorkshire and East Anglia where it collects, recycles, processes and trades ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It processed more than 512,000 tonnes of material in 2006 for a turnover of more than £75 million.

Commenting on the move, Suez Environment chief executive Jean Louise Chaussade said: The Easco acquisition provides Suez Environment with the means to develop and expand its business. Our ambition is for Sita UK to become a fully integrated waste operator at the high end of this growth market, with expertise that spans the entire waste value chain.
