'Suspicious' blaze at paper plant

The fire service has said it is treating a blaze at an East Anglian recycle firm as “suspicious”.

The fire, which had started in the early hours, spread through material at the Bolton Brothers paper and card recycling facility in Ipswich.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said six crews and a command unite attended the incident after they received a call at 05:06 on Thursday 2 February.

A spokeswoman said CCTV from Bolton Brothers and the neighbouring Sackers recycling was being reviewed.

“At this stage the incident is considered to be suspicious, however the investigation is on-going.”

Bolton Brothers told MRW the firm was operating again on Friday morning.

The firm, which employs 30 staff, says it handles over 5,000 tonnes of waste paper and card a month from Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex for recycling.
