Tamar Energy has a signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EDF Energy to cover its first five anaerobic digestion (AD) plants.
Tamar’s Basingstoke and Holbeach facilities started on the PPA terms in December. Its Retford, Halstead and Hoddesdon plants will follow in 2015.
The long-term PPA relating to Tamar’s 11MW generation portfolio was signed at the end of 2014.
Willie Heller, Tamar Energy chief executive, said: “It is an important achievement for the UK’s AD sector, proving the value of AD’s base load generation in the market over the long term.”
John Cockin, EDF Energy’s director of business services, said: “We are always keen to work with new low-carbon generators. This PPA provides a flexible way to sell energy into the market, so Tamar Energy can achieve the best price for its power and benefit from the minimum income certainty provided by the Feed-in Tariff.
“We’re delighted this innovative approach suits both parties and enables Tamar to achieve financial close for its power stations. We’re pleased to be Tamar Energy’s long-term partner and to support the expanding AD market.”
