Projects are being sought for funding by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) that offer a reduction in the amount of household waste originating from the retail sector.
It is also maintaining its focus on projects offering the potential to reduce household packaging waste with funding from the latest round of the £8 million Innovation Fund.
WRAP head of innovation Richard Swannell said: "We are already supporting some very exciting projects that have the potential to deliver direct and significant reductions in household food and packaging waste levels. But we need more.
"Cutting edge projects that will push the boundaries of packaging technology beyond their current limits are also very welcome."
One hundred per cent financial support is available for successful projects covering areas such as innovation in product design and packaging, product dispensing systems, prototyping, pilots and trials, distribution tests and consumer testing.
The deadline for submissions is September 15.
