Textile recycling boosted by spring clean campaign

Textile recycling in South Gloucestershire saw collection rates jump up by over 50% this Spring thanks to a ‘Spring clean’ publicity campaign.

Sita South Gloucestershire and textile recycler JMP Wilcox teamed up for the campaign, which gave £20/tonne for every tonne collected to local charity the Jessie May Trust.

Over £1,000 was raised and collection rates through bring sites and kerbside boxes jumped to over 50 tonnes per month.

JMP Wilcox sales manager Alan Arrowsmith said: “The boost to the recycling rate was far greater than we had hoped. It just goes to show how keen people are to recycle their textiles when you provide a good collection system and a little motivation.”
