Senior figures in the European textile recycling industry have called for the support of European governments and the European Union.
The Bureau for International Recycling (BIR) textile board wants high-level talks to save an industry it believes is on the point of collapse.
In a statement issued at last weeks BIR convention in London, the textile board said: The general market value of all recovered textiles has decreased considerably. The textile-recycling industry needs immediate political support, recognition and also worldwide free trade.
We are looking for discussion with governments and the textile-producing and importing industry to create an acceptable future for textiles recycling.
