Tidy Planet converts waste cooking oil into power and hot water

Q: What is your product?

The CHiP is a combined heat and power system from Tidy Planet that converts waste cooking oil into electricity and hot water for use on site.

Q: How does it work?

The CHiP uses a patented process for the pre-treatment and conversion of waste cooking oil into a fuel, which is then processed through the power generation unit and the waste heat recovered and converted to thermal energy. The result is on site generated electricity and hot water, which can heat and power the facility where the waste is generated

Q: Where would it ideally be used?

Any facility producing quantities of oil in excess of 200 litres per week is an ideal candidate for the technology. Most sites have sufficient demand for the hot water and electricity CHiP produces and the systems are relevant to most sectors where cooking oil is used such as in restaurants, catering operations, and food manufacturers.

Q: How is it different?

The CHiP is the only on-site waste cooking oil fuelled CHP system in the world, it is patented in the US and EU product and offers customers a unique opportunity to gain real value for their waste cooking oil.

Q: What benefits does it offer?

Reduced electricity costs, reduced gas costs, reduction in carbon footprint, eliminates waste oil collection and disposal costs, improved environmental credentials, and renewable obligation certificates.

Q: Where has it been used?

The systems are being used in restaurants, food retail chains, food manufacturers, prisons to name just a few sectors.

Q: Cost and savings?

Tidy Planet supplies a range of CHiP systems, the size is dependant on the level of waste cooking oil available to our customers and their energy needs.

The savings are significant as we supply the units on a rental hire basis so the customer doesn’t need to worry about capital expenditure or approval. This allows our customers to start saving literally from day one of the installation. Savings start off at several thousand pounds per year for our smallest unit increasing to literally tens of thousands of pounds a year on our larger units.

Q: What about maintenance?

Tidy Planet supplies the units on a contract hire basis, which includes all servicing and maintenance costs. Because the units are monitored remotely from Tidy Planet HQ the customer can have peace of mind that the unit will be kept running and at no cost to themselves.

Q: How is it future-proofed?

The CHiP produces Green Energy from a sustainable resource, which is fully compliant with existing and pending legislation.

Q: How many have you sold and where?

With the recent addition of an exclusive licence to manufacture and sell the CHiP throughout Europe we plan on rolling out this innovative technology with our partners around the continent.

Tidy Planet specialises in providing to the market the best food waste solution for their problem, it is passionate about preventing food waste going landfill and realising food waste as a valuable resource rather than a waste problem. The progression into generating Green Energy from food waste is a logical progression for our company and we plan on adding other technologies to our range of solutions over the coming months.
