Trade waste targeted by LGA

Local authorities were this week targeting the business world to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

A consultation launched by the Local Government Association (LGA) states that councils and businesses must work closely together to improve waste management in their areas.

LGA Environment Board chairman David Sparks said: "Household waste makes up only 7% of all waste.

"Huge tonnages of resources are used, and waste produced in trade, industry and agriculture.

"We hope this consultation will encourage others to consider what methods can be used to enhance the work that is already being done to manage waste more effectively."
