TV star Vernon Kaye is backing Shotton's awards

UPM Shotton will give away a £46,000 prize fund as it unveils which top three Greater Manchester authorities have managed to increase their paper recycling rates the most.

The event has been timed to coincide with the Big Recycle week and will be used to encourage the communities of Greater Manchester to recycle more.

UPM Shotton has given £1 for every tonne of paper recovered from Greater Manchester and recycled through its Deeside mill.

The cash for the winners can be used on a sustainable or social project to the benefit of their local community.

UPM Shotton fibre buyer Craig Robinson said: "Race to Recycle has been vital in getting the community on board to collect newspapers, magazines and letters and recycle them in kerbside scheme or bring banks rather than throwing them in the bin."
