Countrystyle Group and Agrivert have won interim contracts to treat green waste and food in Buckinghamshire.
The deals with Buckinghamshire County Council cover arisings from three of the four district councils in the county for a year with a possible extension to three years.
Countrystyle will handle 30,000 tonnes of green waste and mixed food and green and provide bulking services and haulage of all materials to treatment facilities at its Ridham In-Vessel Composting facility in Kent or the Laverstoke Park Farm Open Windrow Composting facility in Hampshire.
Countrystyle will deliver approximately 10,000 tonnes of food waste each year to Agrivert’s Oxfordshire anaerobic digestion plant as separate food and green waste collections are rolled out by the three district councils: Chiltern, Wycombe and South Bucks.
It is hoped that the new service will help the county achieve a target of recycling at least 60% of waste arisings by 2025, as set out in the Buckinghamshire Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy.
Harry Waters, Agrivert’s commercial director, said “We are pleased that the food waste collection service has got off to a successful start. We have been impressed with the roll out which seems to have worked like clockwork”.
