UK company beats EU peers in recycling award

UK bin supplier Green Warehouse has won an international award for its 100% recycled plastics bin.

The Bristol-based company beat others 150 European companies that entered an annual recycled products contest held by the European Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisation (EPRO).

Green Warehouse’s uBin was voted the “best recycled plastic product of the year” by the majority of 200 delegates that attended IdentiPlast, Plastics Europe’s recycling and recovery conference in Paris.

The uBin is made entirely with post-consumer polypropylene and can be completely recycled. It was launched on the UK market a year ago.

The product was designed by manufacturer engineering William Hayes (above).

“Most of the bins that claim to have recycled content are made with post-processed waste, materials that have never left the factory,” he told MRW. “But uBin is made with 100% post-consumer plastics – pots, tubs and trays.”

The best recycled product of the year award has been running for five years. Géraurd Delorme, EPRO co-chairman, told MRW that its aim was to find “ambassador products”, in order to demonstrate that recycling “was not a vision”.

uBin was featured in MRW in May 2013.
