UK promises 10 - year plan for sustainability

Plans have been published to deliver commitments the UK made at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg at the end of August 2003.

The six plans include commitments to reduce the effect of chemical waste on the planet and also a sustainable consumption and production delivery plan.

Other plans involve improving agriculture, fisheries, international biodiversity and oceans.

The UK has committed to minimising the risk of chemicals on human health by 2020. It has also promised to begin a 10-year programme that will lead to more sustainable consumption patterns and a reduction in the amount of pollutants.
