Veolia Environmental Services (VES) has been awarded a 14-year contract with the London Borough of Haringey to take care of its recycling, refuse collection, street cleansing and other environmental services.
During its lifetime, the bundled £200m contract represents a £2m saving each year for the local authority.
VES will begin the contract in April, which includes household refuse and recycling, operating two re-use and recycling centres, cleansing public highways and homes for Haringey estates and graffiti removal and winter gritting.
The agreement is designed to increase Haringey’s recycling rate to 40% by 2015, reduce the impact of service-related activities in the environment, improve street cleanliness and raise awareness of environmental issues within the borough.
VES chief executive Denis Gasquet said: “It is very pleasing to be awarded this prestigious London contract. We are obviously delighted that Haringey council has selected our comprehensive and tailored solution to meet the challenges in hand. We look forward to using our longstanding ‘London experience’ in developing a forward-thinking relationship that will benefit the council and the residents with a first-class service.”
