Veolia completes purchase of Biffa Belgium

Veolia Environmental Services (VES) has now successfully completed the purchase of Severn Trent’s subsidiary Biffa Belgium.

The deal that has cost the waste management company £30.7 million (€45 million) reinforces its position as one of Europe’s leading players in the field.

As part of the acquisition, VES will take on the sizable collection and recycling of commercial and domestic waste business, the special waste division, including its pre-treatment facility in Antwerp and the landfill gas generation operations in the Walloon region.

VES UK chief executive Cyrille du Peloux said: “This is an excellent opportunity for us to further develop our European base, particularly as many of our large customers are looking for pan European service providers.

“With the recent changes in the Belgian market, we believe our experience in recovery and recycling are assets that will help develop this business further.”
