Veolia wins contract with Essex County Council

Veolia Environmental Services has won a contract from Essex County Council to manage its household waste recycling centres.

The eight year contact will see Veolia add 10 sites in southern Essex to the 21 it already manages elsewhere in the county.

Veolia will also operate five new waste transfer stations being developed in Harlow, Great Dunmow, Chelmsford, Braintree and Colchester. Construction and handover of these is expected by summer 2014.

The company’s regional director (east) Keith McGurk said: “The new contract should produce economies of scale and increase sustainability with the aim of helping the council to turn more waste into a resource.”

A company spokeswoman said both sides had decided not to disclose the contract’s value due to commercial sensitivity.
