Waste management company Viridor has acquired Cheshire based cardboard and plastics recycler Storm Recycling.
The Winsford company, which handles 20,000 tonnes of cardboard and plastic film per year at its recycling depot near the M6, will be integrated into Viridor’s Northern Region as part of the company’s strategy of expanding its recycling activities. A statement from Viridor’s parent company Pennon group reports that the company was acquired for a £1.7m cash consideration.
According to Viridor, the new facility will be the company’s first operational facility in the Cheshire area. It will also compliment facilities in St Helens, Trafford Park and the decision to award Viridor provisional preferred bidder status for Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester’s joint household residual waste contract.
Viridor North regional director John Viviani said: “Recycling continues to be a fast growing part of Viridor’s business. This acquisition has an excellent geographic and business fit with our operations and existing services in the North West, and I look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and new customers on board.”
