Viridor has bought integrated waste management firm Swinnerton Environmental for £1.8m as part of its parent company, Pennon Group’s, strategy to expand Viridor’s waste treatment activities.
Swinnerton mainly reprocesses paper and plastics for recycling, treating 30,000 tonnes of material each year.
Based in Bury, Greater Manchester, the firm will be immediately integrated into Viridor’s existing operations in the area.
Viridor North director Mark Burrows Smith said: “In recent months Viridor has shown its commitment to becoming the leading recycler in the Greater Manchester region. The acquisition of Swinnerton Environmental, alongside the acquisition of Adapt Recycling in December will build upon our existing operations in the region, expanding our business in the key recycling areas.”
Current managing director of Swinnerton, Gordon Swinnerton, will continue to work at the company, along with the rest of his employees.
