Viridor has promoted Howard Ellard to business development director.
Ellard, who has worked in the Viridor development and technical team since 1995, joined its board on 1 January 2012.
He will lead the Taunton-headquartered waste management firm’s business development team, focusing particularly on winning large contracts, developing waste treatment infrastructure and overseeing future acquisitions.
Ellard has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector.
Viridor chief executive Colin Drummond said: “This appointment to the Viridor board is in line with our strategic ambitions for further organic and acquisitional growth.
“Our company continues its transformation into a progressive and innovative recycling and resource management business, and Howard will assist greatly with this in his new board role. We wish him every success.”
Viridor’s current development and technical director, Barrie Hurley, stepped down from the board on 31 December 2011.
Drummond added: “I would like to thank Barrie personally and on behalf of the company for his immense contribution to Viridor’s success over the past 15 years.
“He has won respect and made many friends throughout our company and the industry, and we are delighted that he will continue to play an important role for Viridor going forward.”
