Charnwood Borough Council has awarded Viridor with a five year contract for the transportation and sorting of 16,000 tonnes of mixed recyclables from the borough’s households.
The five year, eight month contract has an option for the council to extend the contract for a further seven years and will see residents’ system of plastic sacks and box replaced with a single, commingled bin. The material will then be sorted at Viridor’s Crayford MRF.
Charnwood Borough Council head of environmental services Neil Greenhalgh said: “We know that residents across the borough are keen recyclers and we are always looking for additional opportunities to make recycling easier while delivering good value for money. The new contract and the changes to collections will help us do just that. We are very pleased to appoint Viridor to help further boost our recycling performance.”
