Viridor has bought Manchester business JWT Waste Services for £7.6m, to expand its presence in the North West.
Collection and recycling business JWT is based in Atherton, Greater Manchester handles around 70,000 tonnes of material per year, employing 45 staff.
JWT’s Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and a fleet of 29 vehicles which will be integrated into Viridor’s northern region operation, complementing the commercial collection services of Viridor’s Trafford Park operation.
The acquisition will allow Viridor to widen its operation across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire in line with parent company Pennon Groups’ strategy of expanding its waste management activities, particularly in the collection, recycling and energy recovery sectors.
Viridor regional director John Viviani said that JWT was a quality local recycling and waste management business and offered good synergies with Viridor’s existing business in the North West.
He said: “The acquisition continues our investment in essential recycling and renewable energy services in the region, such as the construction of the Runcorn EfW facility alongside our advanced recycling facilities, helps us to meet the needs of local businesses which are looking to recycle more and to minimise the amount of waste they send to landfill.”
